Apple Watch is Banding the World Together, one Band at a Time

Apple Watch is banding together for the upcoming Olympic Games!

Apple has just created a collection of nylon bands to support 14 different countries participating in Rio. But, get this. Unless you have a ticket for the games, your wrist will never see the likings of those patriotic bands.

Apple has decided to sell the collection exclusively to Olympic attendees at the Apple Store Village Mall in Barra de Tijuca, Rio. The wrist wear will retail for $49 each, however, it is expected that the bands will soon become a collector’s item and the resale will skyrocket.

Apple refuses to brand the bands as Olympic-themed wearable tech, perhaps, in efforts to continue their sale well outside the realms of the games’ two-week period. The company is calling the collection a ‘celebration of athletes.’

The striped bands represent 14 different countries, including the United States, China, Brazile, Great Britain, Germany, Jamaica, South Africa, Australia, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada and Mexico. The United States band is a series of red and white stripes surrounded by blue, while Japan’s band is an all-white design with a single red looping stripe.

Here, we see the Australian band with a dueling yellow and green stripe style.

Appel’s chief executive, Tim cook, tells WWD, “Customers love it,” explaining, “People love how the bands give the watch an entirely new look.”

The bands will be available in early August; perfect timing for the opening ceremonies on the 5th. Team USA’s sprinter, Trayvon Bromell, has already been sporting his red, white and blue wristwear.
