Broadway Star Jasmine Cephas Jones Crosses into Fashion
Jasmine Cephas Jones, “Hamilton” actress, has collaborated with Lou & Grey to release a fashion collection, according to Yahoo Style.
The limited edition line will have t-shirts, sweatshirts, and necklaces.
Jones doesn’t simply model the work, which, she told Yahoo Style, she thought would be the case when Lou & Grey first contacted her. She participated in designing the collection, which draws its inspiration from the things she loves and her New York roots.
For two years, Jones starred in “Hamilton” as Peggy Schuyler Vann Rensselaer and as Maria Reynolds. Her career acting has reached beyond the stage to film; she will be in “Blood Surf,” a horror movie that stars James Franco. Now she’s making a run on fashion.
Lou & Grey approached Jones to create a line that reflected her personality and her passions. Jones said the line emphasizes music, home, and love, which are all important to her. The collection page at Lou & Grey features loose, casual sweatshirts and t-shirts in light colors. Sayings like “Groove baby” and “Track 1 Side A” recall Jones’ musical background, while references to Brooklyn on others emphasize her connection to her home. The collection also includes simple, stackable necklaces with one-word statements similar to those on the shirts, such as “Groove.”
Jones told Yahoo that among the important pieces in her personal wardrobe right now are 80’s jeans that her mom owned and colored berets.
Since finishing with “Hamilton” Jones has been traveling with her family as well as working on other acting jobs. She said that she would be open to doing further work in fashion if another opportunity appeared.
In addition to her work with Lou & Grey, Jones will be singing at the Super Bowl this year. The Broadway star will be singing “America the Beautiful” with her former “Hamilton” co-stars Renée Elise Goldsberryn, and Phillipa Soo, according to Rolling Stone. Fans can watch her then, as well as wear her new clothing line.
