Christina Grimmie’s Family Outraged Teen Choice Awards Didn’t Mention Their Daughter

After the unfortunate death of The Voice singer, Christina Grimmie, her family has recently commented about their disappointment in this year’s Teen’s Choice Awards for not mentioning their daughter’s name during the whole event. During the two-hour event, twenty-two-year-old Grimmie received her first Teen’s Choice awards for Choice Web Star in the music category.

One of the main speeches of the event, which was conducted by star Jessica Alba, discussed gun violence and its effects on victims and their families. During the speech, Alba introduced a few teens like Cameron Sterling, Alton Sterling’s son, who lost his father recently to a violent police shooting. During the speech not once did Alba mention Christina Grimmie, who was also a victim of gun violence.

Christina Grimmie was a contestant on the sixth season of the hit ABC show The Voice and finished the season as third place. Afterwards, she was offered to sign with Adam Levine’s label, 222 Records, but instead, she signed with Island Records. On June 10th 2016, Grimmie attended a meet and greet session for her fans after her performance at the Plaza Live in Orlando Florida. She was shot four times by the deranged fan Kevin James Loibl, who committed suicide after Grimmie’s brother tried to apprehend him.

With her family’s public outrage, Grimmie’s fans have also complained about the Teen’s Choice awards mistake. They have created a petition for Teen’s Choice Awards and Fox Network to publicly apologize for failing to recognize one of their contestants. The petition has gained over 1,000 signatures and Fox has yet to release a statement about the upset.

Before her death, Christina Grimmie commented to the press that it would be her dream to win a Teen Choice Award. After her death, Selena Gomez, who was a friend of Grimme’s, rallied fans and lover’s of Grimmie to vote her friend in as best Web Star Musician of 2016. Along with Selena Gomez’s help, Gomez’s manager and stepfather, Brian Teefey, posted on Grimme’s YouTube site to help ensure Christina Grimmie’s win.
