Hong Kong Fashion Week (HKFW) opened Monday to more than 1500 exhibitors. Now in its 48th edition running, HKFW is able to boast the title of the second largest fashion event in the world. It is also the biggest fashion event in Asia.

The event runs Jan. 16 through Jan. 19, highlighting the 2017 fall and winter collections. However, attendees should not expect to see only winter and fall clothing. Many categories and items will feature, including sportswear, swimwear, children’s clothing, and eveningwear. There will also be displays for materials such as buttons and labels. Specialized sections during the fair will offer high-end, designer labels and looks.

The HKFW offers a platform for emerging designers to introduce their work to the fashion world, in a setting where they can receive international attention. Meanwhile, professionals can view a wide range of the competition and new trends in order to gain a more comprehensive view of the current market.

According to Apparel News, the event saw international customers when it opened at the start of the week. The fashion shows featured designers who were both new and familiar to the scene. The runway looks indicated a move toward boho and African styles.

Last year, exhibitors at the show represented many different nationalities; the Hong Kong Trade Development Council site says that exhibitors from 22 countries and regions appeared in 2016. There were also close to 18,000 guests representing 93 countries and regions.

The Fashion Week has also involved 10 fashion shows, as well as multiple other events. Seminars and workshops offered included various topics relevant the industry, ranging from manufacturing to marketing. Among these were a comprehensive teaching on knitting machines (“Knitting Tech – From Materials to Finishing”), “The Wool Lab,” and “Navigating the Wave of Omni Channel Retailing.”

The Hong Kong Fashion Week is organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

I'm a lover of words in all forms, sweatshirts in all conditions, and God in all circumstances. I particularly enjoy working collaboratively on the written word and wearing microfiber robes (preferably at the same time). Most of the time I don't get enough sleep, but I make a valiant effort.
