Melania Trump Makes Interior Design Hire for White House
Melania Trump has hired an interior designer to add a personal touch to the White House, according to ABC. Tham Kannalikham, a Laotian-American designer, is the second person Trump has hired in her official capacity as First Lady. Kannalikham, a New York designer, started at Ralph Lauren Home.
Trump’s current senior adviser, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, said in a statement to WWD that the First Lady appreciates the White House’s historicity and that she expects Kannalikham’s work to make the White House both comfortable and elegant.
The First Lady, her husband, and Barron Trump will all officially settle permanently into the White House after the school year ends for Barron, who is 10 years old. Until then, Melania Trump will spend some time in Washington and some in New York with her son.
Since Donald Trump took office, Mrs. Trump has stayed outside of Washington, but she will be joining the president in Mar-a-Lago when the weekend comes, according to ABC.
When presidents take office, according to tradition they update the Oval Office and their living quarters to suit their own tastes and comfort. A sum of $100,000 is reserved for the redecorating.
When Barack, Michelle, Sasha and Malia Obama became First Family, they redecorated their White House quarters with their own funds. Michael S. Smith was the chosen designer. Michelle Obama and Smith collaborated to decorate the Obamas’ living space.
Mrs. Trump hired her first staff member Feb. 1, choosing Lindsay Reynolds as her chief of staff, as reported by ABC. Reyolds also worked in the White House during the George W. Bush administration. The First Lady made a statement saying that she would take time to assemble an experienced team for her staff, echoing the sentiment of her husband’s campaign slogan. and that She said that she looks forward to creating a team that would help make America better for all.
