New York fashion week designers are known for bringing new ideas to the catwalk. This year Muslim designer Anniesa Hasibuan made New York Fashion week history when she incorporated Islamic fashion on the runway. Hasibuan’s historic collection stood apart from any other collection because she was the first designer to dress all of her models in hijabs. Hasibuan owns a high-end boutique in Jakarta, Indonesia and is the first Indonesian designer to showcase at New York City fashion week. Islamic-fashion-week-look-2

The Islamic-inspired collection was greatly accepted on social media for its effort to help normalize Islamic fashion in America. Thousands of people applauded the brand for bringing Islamic fashion to mainstream including the chief executive of Haute Hijab, Melaine Elturk. Elturk wrote on Instagram, “I believe fashion is one of the outlets in which we can start that cultural shift to normalize hijab in America so as to break down stereotypes.”

Hasibuan’s collection incorporated luxurious Indonesian fabrics and embroidery into gracefully flowing gowns, tunics and pants. The full collection included 48 looks including 38 ready to wear looks and 10 evening gowns

I fell in love with fashion as a young girl. As I grew older I developed my passion for writing. Now I hope to turn my two passions into a career. I am looking forward to building my career as a fashion journalist. I enjoy following and writing about fashion trends. I am a minimalist when it comes to my personal style. Lastly I love matte and neutral colors.
