Stitch Fix to Add 90 Plus-Size Brands
Stitch Fix, a mail-to-you clothing seller, will be including a range of plus sizes starting Feb. 27, according to Racked. It is to add sizes to its available products, featuring over 90 different brands in the size ranges of 1X to 3X and 14W to 24W. The brand currently carries through size 16, the equivalent of a double XL. The additional sizing will be introduced alongside the other sizes, instead of in a separate “plus-size” category.
Stitch Fix may be responding to competitors like Dia&Co, which is another online retailer that has focused exclusively on the plus size market.
Stitch Fix, which delivers a personalized clothing box to customers based on their answers to a style survey, currently has over 75,000 women on a waitlist for the plus-size selection, Racked reports.
Plus-size selection is often limited. Stitch Fix added clothing from brands that already featured plus sizing, but they also partnered with clothing labels that didn’t already carry plus-size to create about 15 new plus-size lines.
In order to optimize its selection, Stitch Fix asked Allison Teng, Kristine Thompson and Alexandra Thomas, all bloggers who wear plus-size clothing, to explore the collection in progress and help refine it through their feedback.
Thompson said that the company asked about issues the women had with the industry and what they would like. She also said that she and the other bloggers offered advice about how to put together the feedback system and presentation to make them work for plus-size women. The bloggers recommended emphasizing shape over weight in the survey that helps the company determine how to choose clothes, because of the differences in weight distribution in different people.
Thompson also credited the company with making options available for their customers. Instead of simply offering a few extra brands, Stitch Fix will be bringing a real selection with room for individual style.Note: Featured image is not of a Stitch Fix item
