Victoria Beckham to Release Target Collection
Victoria Beckham is releasing a collection for retail giant Target, according to Elle. The former Spice Girl turned designer held a launch party for the line aimed at the everyday consumer.
The collection includes more than 200 items. Beckham showed it at a tea featuring themes inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Pieces are for both adults and children, including matching women’s and girls’ outfits that are ready made for a mom-and-daughter co-op look.
The colors, prints, and graphics are cheery and simple, and the pieces are designed for different sizes—to prove it, Beckham brought in models who didn’t match the typical industry sizing.
A short fuchsia dress with three-quarter sleeves and a drop waist ruffle, a plaid peplum shirt and trouser combination, bold daisies and stripes, a rabbit hoodie and a sunny orange romper all feature. Beckham’s favorites? One of them is a black shirt and trouser combination with calla lilies on them.
The collection, Beckham said, celebrates her relationship with her daughter Harper. The two of them enjoy coloring, walking in the park, and pressing flowers together. When Beckham was making the collection, she asked Harper what she enjoyed doing together, and Harper brought out coloring and stickers. Beckham took this as advising for the collection. And she also had Harper model the prototypes for her while working on the designs.
Both Beckham and Target PR director Josh Thomas said that comfortable is important when making kids’ clothing. Beckham knows what clothing is good for kids, Thomas said. Beckham observed that kids want to look nice, but they also want the freedom to play in their clothes.
The collection is about fun, positivity and being inclusive, Beckham indicated. The price point was a definite consideration because of the target customer base, but in the end, the designer told Elle, she was satisfied that they didn’t compromise style for price, even though small details can make a difference price-wise.
The collection goes on sale April 9. It will be available both at Target and on Beckham’s website.
