100th Disney Channel Original Movie Premiere: Feeling Old Yet?

It’s around the age of fifteen that one no longer marks the passage of time by a number. It becomes the year you get your permit. The year you get your license. The year you’re ‘legal’. The year your twenties begin. And well, we all know the magical year that supersedes that.

While twenty-two is certainly no age to start whining about, your teenage years, you couldn’t help but speed through, suddenly become a blur of milestones. Seriously, high school graduation was yesterday. Your phone bill was still on your parents’ card. Oh, how you loved being a college freshman. No cares, no worries, just a two-by-four dorm room and endless frat parties.

Why all the sappy reminiscing? Disney hit us today with some unsettling news. Friday, June 24th, marks the 100th Disney Channel Original Movie premiere. The chairs floating through a bubbly screen. The magical, lightsaber wand that your idol would draw in the shape of Mickey Mouse’s head. The theme songs. The popcorn. The PJs. All are flooding back as you look around your shabby two-by-three apartment, featuring your parents’ old microwave, and woah you feel old.

Adventures in Babysitting is the newest installation in a long line of childhood classics. Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson, two of Disney Channel’s own as actresses on Girl Meets World and the Descendants, star in the film that follows the babysitters as they recapture their escaped children. We know what you’re thinking. Not only have you never heard of Carpenter or Carson, but where did That’s So Raven or Hannah Montana go? Oh right, The View and sucked into a pair of marijuana-patterned spandex.

We get to feeling nostalgic and you might think this article might be another ‘Our Top Rankings For Disney Channel Originals’ or ‘The DCOMs We Miss’. It’s not. We’re going to show you just how old you millennials really are.

The ‘Soul-Skaters’ rolled across our screens 18 years ago. We think we’re on the brink of tears.

Feeling a bit sad and nostalgic now? Pop a bag of extra butter in that microwave, bring out old teddy (we’ll pretend you even stowed him away), and take a look at this…
