’12 Years a Slave’ Storm Reid Joins Disney’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ Film

Actress Strom Reid is reportedly discussing her possible role in Disney’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time novel. The young actress in known for her role in Academy Award winning film 12 Years a Slave.

Reid is expected to join Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon in the new film. A Wrinkle in Time is being directed by Ava DuVernay and with her job she will be completing a huge milestone for the film industry. DuVernay will be the first woman of color to direct a live-action film with a 100-million-dollar budget.

The film is expected to be written by Jennifer Lee, who also wrote and co-directed the hit animated film Frozen with Chuck Buck. The new film is an adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s novel about a group of children who travel through time to find their missing father.

Storm Reid, if she lands the part, will be playing one of the oldest children among the group who is searching for their father.

Reid made her debut in film in 2013’s 12 Years a Slave and has also guest starred in a few TV shows. She has guest starred in NCIS: Los Angeles and Chicago P.D. series. Reid has also recently starred in Lea to the Rescue, which is a part of the American Girl doll franchise and the 2015’s Lea doll collection.

A Wrinkle in Time novel won the Newbery Medal in 1963 and was also recognized by Chelsea Clinton who named it as one of the most influential novels of her childhood during her DNC speech.

Many Disney fans and commenters have raved about the company’s commitment to cast a diverse group of actresses for their new project. In the past, Disney has been criticized for mainly casting Caucasian actors and actresses to represent their characters in their feature films, but now fans are excited to see more diverse characters in theaters soon.
