Puffy eyes are a killer. Americans will spend a whopping $3 billion this year on products to reduce or remove puffy eyes and dark circles, according to the NPD Group, a market-research firm. Yet the money spent is not what brings about change; you have to be willing to put in a little work as well if you want results. The good news is that 10 minutes of smart moves can make your eyes look younger, less tired, and more attractive, without spending a penny.

Kicking those puffy peepers into gear doesn’t take much time or effort, especially if you already have most of these items on hand. To keep them looking rested all day long, just use these simple tricks that anyone can try easily.

Here it is:

Cold Spoon on the Eyes

This is my favorite. It works like a charm and doesn’t take long to show results. A cold spoon on the eyes can reduce under-eye puffiness almost instantly – it also helps with dark circles (the main culprit in puffy eyes). Hold a chilled metal spoon or teaspoon over your eyelids for about 30-60 seconds, then just put it back in the kitchen drawer until the next time!

+ Tip:   If you do not have any spoons at home, fold an ice cube and hold it against your eyes instead of the spoon. The effect will be similar. Also, add a few drops of lemon juice to warm water, dip cloths in this mixture and use them as refresh compresses to get rid of dark circles on the eyes.

+ You can also use frozen vegetables such as broccoli to put under your eyes for 5-10 minutes, leave them in the freezer until needed. Use cold spoons or ice cubes placed directly on puffy eyes to reduce their puffiness and make you feel better. This remedy is just like a drug because it’s so effective and fast-acting!

Cucumber Juice

Cucumber juice is also a good cure for puffiness under the eyes. Mix cucumber juice with some water in equal parts and apply it as a compress on your eyes. Leave it on for 10 minutes then flush your face with cool water. Repeat this process regularly to get rid of puffy eyes naturally.

Tomato Juice or Garlic

Tomato juice can be used topically by mixing it with some aloe vera gel and applying it as eye compresses helps reduce inflammation and swelling of the eyes, lightening dark circles around the eyes.   Another remedy is to crush a few garlic cloves so that their juices get released onto a cloth and put the garlic-soaked cloth over closed eyes for around 20 minutes.

Tea Bags

Make yourself a nice warm cup of tea, and after you are done drinking it keeps the tea bag inside your eye for 5-10 minutes.  This should eliminate the puffy eyes immediately.

Clotting Agents

Using products that contain clotting agents like onion juice or even clay can do wonders to reduce puffy eyes instantly.  Take a little bit of these products and apply them to your skin where your swollen eyes are.  The swelling will go down almost immediately since these items work as great natural anti-inflammatory drugs.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera gel works very well with reducing puffiness in the eyes. Simply cut a small piece of the aloe plant and squeeze the gel out of its side.  Use the gel and apply it to the swollen area of your eyes. The aloe gel will take effect almost immediately as it begins to work on reducing swelling and puffiness.

Vitamin E Oil

An extremely effective method is taking a vitamin E capsule, crushing it into small pieces, and then mixing them with any light oil such as olive oil or jojoba oil.  Apply this mixture to your eyes to reduce puffy areas quickly. As you can expect, this should have a fast response, working in several minutes so that you will not need to wait long before seeing results.

Salt Water Remedy

Take 2 spoons of salt in half cup of water, boil until reduced to a quarter cup.  Cooldown the solution then use a cotton ball or soft handkerchief to rinse out your tired bloodshot eyes with this saline water 3-4 times a day especially at night time before sleeping.  You can store this solution for future use in the refrigerator if you are doing this remedy every other day or after making this solution each time.

Lettuce Leaves Remedy

Take a handful of lettuce leaves, put them in boiling water for 3 to 4 minutes (let it cool down after taking the boiled lettuce out). Wash your face with cold or lukewarm water and pat dry gently. Applying the boiled lettuce on your closed eyes before sleeping at night is one remedy recommended by most of my grandmother’s friends who suffers from puffy eyes problem.  Repeat 2-3 times a week if you are facing chronic puffy eyes problems like me.

Mustard Oil Remedy

Take a cotton ball and dip it in mustard oil, put the cotton ball on your closed eyes for 15 minutes. Wash your face with cold or lukewarm water and pat dry gently. Do not sleep after applying this remedy as it will burn your eyes due to the hotness of the mustard oil. Repeat 2-3 times a week if you are facing chronic puffy eyes problems like me.

Castor Oil Remedy

Apply castor oil ( warm ) on both the eyelids, wash with cold water after 15 minutes. Repeat 2-3 times a week if you are facing chronic puffy eyes problems like me.

This remedy is popular for its’ moisturizing properties. It’s a good idea to dab some castor oil in your eyes before going to bed, so you’ll wake up with less swollen eyes the next morning!

Egg Yolk/ Egg White Remedy

This is one of my favorite remedies for puffy eyes that I do every day and I always notice more shrinkage from my under-eye area than any other tip or method. Apply egg yolk or egg white ( depending on what you have ) layer by layer under the eyes starting about half an inch away from the inner corner of your eyes.

Maintain this layer for 15-20 minutes and finally remove it by washing your face with lukewarm water.  Repeat once a week to reduce under-eye puffiness substantially.

Glycerin Eye Drops

Glycerin eye drops help to permanently reduce under-eye puffiness and also hydrate the dryness. Apply 3-4 droplets of Glycerin in your eyes after cleansing them properly. This should be used thrice a day for best results.

This will definitely prove to be helpful in getting rid of puffy eyes. For a faster result, you can use Glycerin Eye Drops along with any other under eye cream/gel

Sesame Oil bags

Sesame Oil, being filled with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory qualities, and essential fatty acids helps to reduce puffiness around the eyes. It is also used as a remedy for dark circles so if your case is puffy eyes accompanied by dark circles, this is what you need. The dark circles are not likely to go away but they will tone down once puffiness goes down significantly.

Apply sesame oil on clean cotton pads and keep them overnight. Avoid applying too much sesame oil as it can lead to more inflammation and worsen the situation. Rinse your face with cold water in the morning and apply a good moisturizer.
