Happiness is Within Our Grasp!

“Happiness” is what we are when we try and reach something we desire. What most people don’t understand is the science behind being happy. It is a pity that some of us are struggling with life while there are simple things to try out in life to be a little happier in life. Sometimes constant practices in your daily life can go a long way in boosting happiness in your life. Of course, it may take some patience to get there. It is not going to be one time. However, once you are good at it, your life will get a lot easier, simpler, and undoubtedly happier.

It would also be important to identify and stay away from things that trick our minds into feeling less happy. For instance, comparing yourself with others in terms of achievements or how rich they may seem is only going to hit you hard. Comparison is one’s worst enemy in life. Moreover, our brains are designed to be flexible and adjust to changes. This means the joy of your new car, or new spouse won’t last long. Eventually, it will be something you are used to and the joy of its novelty will no longer be the same. This may even influence your mood and make you feel unhappy with time for no reason.

Hence, the following tips will look into areas that require improvement in our lives. Moreover, including them in your daily routine is going to transform your life into a happy and contented life.

Undoubtedly, reconnecting with an old friend or colleague will definitely contribute to boosting happiness. However, this applies to meeting and talking to strangers who seem kind and happy themselves. Throughout, people have commented on various occasions about the level of happiness before and after talking to strangers and the ratings have been pretty interesting.

One other reason people lag in making conversations is that they predict the opposite mostly. Most of us predict talking to someone may be a bad idea or an experience and want to be on your own especially if you are in bad shape. In reality, many experience the exact opposite of their predictions; feeling happier.

Social rejection is another major reason people fear talking to strangers. Despite these fears, some people try making conversation with strangers simply because they need it. An action like this is never going to let you down, most of the time. Hence, don’t be scared to chat with someone you don’t know if you do not have a close friend or family to talk to.

  • Performing Acts of Kindness

Don’t we all resort to pampering when we need a mood lift or a boost? However, it is the opposite we should be looking forward to. This means, instead of expecting to be pampered when our mood hits low, try performing acts of kindness to others. Your mood will feel elevated instantly, leading to a happy soul. For instance, you can volunteer in helping someone on time or commit to it for a certain period of time or you can do small favors like buying a coffee for the person behind you in the line.  In comparison with the self-indulgent things as getting therapeutic relief, a massage, or a nap, offering to help someone in need can make a real difference to your life.

The best part about being kind towards others is that you feel good about yourself. This means if you try being kind to yourself and pat yourself, this may ultimately end up with feelings of guilt. However, according to experts, performing an act of kindness per day might not do the magic. To feel happy from within, performing at least three acts of kindness per day can make you feel really good about yourself.

We may be helping someone without noticing it, so we may not feel happy simply because we don’t know. However, helping another purposely with an intention is what you should aim for to end up with happy results. It can be even being nice around people or saying something nice to make others feel happy. Hence aiming for simple gestures can make you feel better and will not cost you anything as an indulging massage. A small effort makes a huge difference.

  • Exercising Often

Anyone who’s tried exercising or has had some exercises experience would know what it can do to you both mentally and physically. The reality is that exercising and working out is highly underrated despite what it does to you. It is a popular fact that exercising daily or more often directly impacts one’s mood. According to research, depressed people who exercise regularly gained great benefits and the outcomes were similar to using antidepressants. Moreover, those who exercised regularly were less prone to relapse.

Although bidding farewell to depression is not the same thing as attaining happiness, research and studies show that they are very similar. If you exercise you’ll feel a lot lighter, better and what more would one want? Furthermore, if you question a person who exercises regularly, they would tell how bad they feel when they do not exercise and how lifted their moods are upon exercising.

Moreover, including exercises in your daily routine enables the feel-good hormones to act out. This will interrupt any kind of negative thinking and try to balance out your moods while making you feel good and happy. Hence it would be great to get up and engage in something (active) rather than sit and dwell which will make your mood go downwards causing it to ruminate. Step out of negativity and embrace happy moods while you can.

It’s not a surprise that most people today are sleep-deprived. However, not many of us understand how strongly sleep ties to our mood. Despite feeling good for the moment by pushing bedtime off the schedule, try prioritizing it for a real change in the mood. Short or no sleep constantly can make a person feel grumpy. Instead, try feeling happy by connecting with your sleep.

Research revealed that people who slept off well after learning something new surprisingly improved in their performance than those who didn’t sleep after learning something new. Further, people who lack sleep are more prone to making mistakes and are slower in reacting or responding. Moreover, this lack is not at all related to performance deficit but due to lack of quality sleep. Lack of sleep is quite similar to being drunk and you might not realize how impaired you are.

To conclude, feeling happy is indeed within our grasp. It is the simple yet right techniques we adapt that make a difference in our moods. Try some of the above tips to bring about a real change in life, and to bring about happiness.
