For those of us that live in the city, we become creatures of habit. We end up going down the same streets to get to work, and on the way home end up visiting the same stores, and eating at the same restaurants. It’s those of us who live outside the city who are always up for the adventure to discover new stores and new restaurants that we can go home and brag to our friends about how cool it is. Here is a list of can’t miss stores for the visitors, and for the creatures of habit if you’re up for a change of scenery or selection.
1. Forever 21 Times Square:
1540 Broadway
Many of us have shopped at Forever 21 in our local malls, but this is a Forever21 like no other. As soon as you walk through the revolving doors, you think that you and your stiletto laden feet have just stepped into retail paradise. This store is four floors, and the best part is there is a photo booth in the middle of the store. Unlike many Forever 21’s located in the mall, this store is almost always immaculate making it easy to spot the pieces that you’ve been ogling on the website.
2. Yellow Rat Bastard: (Soho):
483 Broadway
This is a very unique store, much like Hot Topic or Zumiez. Has a wide variety of t-shirts, jeans, and bags. More on the edgy/punk side, but definitely a cool shop to pick up souvenir t-shirts for friends, or a nice collector t-shirt for yourself. T-shirt selection includes: vintage, logo, movie/tv/music options, with most being under $25.
3. Topshop: (Soho):
487 Broadway
This location is one of the only ones in New York City. The store is three stories of incredibly cute fashion forward clothing and accessories. Although they are a pricier store, it is always a good idea to invest in a quality jacket that is not only chic, but will last you a long time.
There is an amazing selection of shoes, and accessories. Also, if you’re still a student be sure to show your student id at the checkout counter to receive a 10% discount off your purchase.
4. Auh20 Shop
84 E. 7th Street NYC
421 Graham Ave Brooklyn
Auh20 is a thrift and vintage boutique with two locations: one in the east village and the other in Brooklyn. Most items in the store are priced under $25 and they also have $5 and $10 racks. You can browse the items that they have in shop on their Instagram page (@Auh20shop) and if you find something you like, comment on the picture and they can ship or hold the item in store for you to pick up!
5. Canal Street
Although Canal Street is more of a tourists’ favorite, it is still a fun place to go for the seasoned New Yorker. Canal Street is a strip of stores with low-priced knock-off bags, perfume, jewelry, and New York souvenir: post cards, shirts, globes, and all that fun stuff. Be sure to bring your bargaining A-game, as it’s one of the shop owner’s favorite game to play. $25, for that? How about $15, or I keep walking?
