Whether you’re going out on date night, or just want to feel flirty, everyone wants to feel sexy sometimes. Scent is one of the most primal of our senses, and it’s a great way to unconsciously make you seem more attractive and confident. Finding the fragrance that does this for you, however; is difficult as fragrances react differently to each person’s body chemistry. So, instead of listing fragrances specifically, below are five fragrance notes that are known for being particularly alluring, along with a few perfumes that contain them.
One of the most alluring scents, night blooming jasmine belongs to a group of flowers known for their specific type of scent: the white flowers. Along with ylang-ylang, gardenia and indole, Jasmine carries a strong, sweet scent. Unlike other flowers, it has a slightly animalistic quality that is carnal and heady. A very feminine scent, jasmine is found in perfumes such as Alien by Thierry Mulger, Beauty by Calvin Klein and Tendre Jasmin by Yves Rocher.
Musk is a heavy, incredibly sensual note in perfume. Highly animalistic, it was originally taken from animals but is now synthesized in labs. Some of the synthetics come from plants such as musk okra, others are entirely man-made. The synthetics actually allow for a variety of scents to be used in the musk category. Clean musk is a softer scent, while ‘dirty’ musk mimics the natural, more animalistic scent closely. Narisco Rodriguez for Her and Original Musk by Khiel are some lovely choices for musk fragrances.
A smokey and spicy wood scent, sandalwood is prevalent in many women’s fragrances. Reminiscent of incense and very hypnotic, sandalwood has a warm, sensual quality. Bailando by Harvey Prince, Sensuous Nude by Estee Lauder and Samsara by Guerlain all have strong sandalwood notes.
On its own, vanilla has a strong and sweet, warm scent. With other light scents, it smells edible, but when paired with other, darker scents, vanilla can exude a warm sensuality that is hard to ignore. The One by Dolce & Gabbana, Dior Addict by Dior and Organza by Givenchy all feature a warm vanilla alongside floral and musk notes.
Rose is the classic floral scent. Soft and feminine, the scent of roses is the scent of romance. Rose can feel old-fashioned, but paired with wood, musk and citrus scents, rose can be unexpectedly sexy. Tom Ford’s Café Rose, Nahema by Guerlain and Rose de Nuit by Serge Lutens are more androgynous rose scents that are a bit sexier than your grandmother’s rose perfume.
