Eye shadow is tricky – doing it the wrong way might get a woman in serious beauty trouble. Everyone is familiar with that unfortunate clown look – yikes! Luckily, there are a few tricks to prevent the clown look and make every woman’s eyes as enticing as possible.

1. Base First

The trick to making eye shadow last all night is a base coat. Removing the grease from the lids and prepping the eyes with a foundation or a shadow primer will keep the color from fading before it’s time.

2. Forget Free Foam Applicators

Everyone wants to use the free stuff. It’s free, so why buy more – right? Wrong. The best way to apply eye shadow successfully is with a brush, not the foam sticks. Two different sizes should suffice, such as a medium for the neutral base and another for the crease. Doing so will give the smoothest, cleanest finish.

 3. Shimmer Scarcely

Don’t go shimmer crazy – it’s not body glitter. Shimmer is a good technique to highlight the eyes, but it also accentuates wrinkles and other creases, so be careful. Too much of it can end up doing more harm than good.

4. Create Eyeliner

Pencil eyeliners work just fine, but using shadow for the liner can give an even more natural result. Liquid liners and other pencils can often create a harsh line. Using a dark shadow gives a bit of a smudged, carefree look. It generates the same effect just with a less bold approach. Using angled brushes for the shadow will give a more clear-cut line if that’s what is preferred.

5. Blend Beautifully

The key to a perfect shadow is proper blending. Using sculpted brushes and blending through small, circular motions should work wonders. There should be a natural shift in colors – where one ends and another begins should never be clear.
