Anna Wintour once said, “Create your own style…let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.” Style is not about copying what has already been done. You don’t want to look like a robot wearing a brand that you don’t like, feel comfortable in, or can’t afford just because that’s what is “in” right now.
Style isn’t about the label. It isn’t about the color, or cut of the outfit. Style is about comfort and ultimately confidence. A good rule of thumb is if you feel confident in what you’re wearing, and you can wear it with a smile, it’s in style.
So, how do you go about developing your own style? Well here are some step by step pointers to help you truly rock your wardrobe.
1.Determine what types of clothes suit your body best– Bootleg jeans, skinny jeans, pencil skirts or maxi skirts, peplum tops or flowy bohemian tops?
2. Look for inspiration- You don’t have to copy someone who’s stylish to be stylish. See what works for them and what other people are wearing, use it as inspiration. Maybe you want to try to wear that type of skirt or see if that hair color would look cute on you. Remember: style evolves.
3. Have a signature accessory– Headbands, floppy hats, an ankle bracelet, or sunglasses. A good way for people to notice your style is to give them something to associate you with, this can be achieved through a signature accessory.

4. Shop at thrift or vintage stores- They are restocked every couple of days and usually only have one of everything, so you will most likely never be seen wearing the same outfit as someone else. It’s best to steer clear of shops where people you know frequent: Forever 21, Hollister, and Abercrombie & Fitch. You work hard for your money, you don’t want to spend it on what everyone else is buying, do you?
5. Try different things– How do you know what you don’t like if you never try it? Things look different on the rack than they do on your body. You may be pleasantly surprised. Rule of thumb: when you go in the store, try three things that you would never normally try on or you wouldn’t ever think of having in your closet.
6. Wear it with pride- Keep your head up and keep your smile wide. Look in the mirror and tell yourself you look good, because you do. Nothing is sexier than confidence. If you can wear it and feel comfortable, than nothing else and nobody else’s opinion matters but your own.
