Sometimes the stress of school, work, and reality get the best of us and we need to find a way to get out of our own head. It happens to the best of us at some point or another. When reality gets to be too much, take a breath and stop fighting against yourself and start fighting for yourself. Realize we all get stressed sometimes, we just need to take a step back and take a breather, and it’s okay to need to slow down.

1. Meditate each morning- It’s important to take time for yourself in the morning. Set your alarm a decent amount of time before you actually have to start your routine, so you are not running around stressed in the morning. When you wake up, give yourself time with your thoughts and set your intention for the day. Tell yourself, “today is going to be a good day, because I want it to be.” Do a few stretches to wake your body up and make yourself a cup of green tea. Factor in unexpected occurrences such as traffic, accidents, or detours to get to work so you won’t be late.

2. Get some sun– Vitamin D is a natural mood enhancer! Try to get 30 minutes a day and don’t forget sunscreen! It helps to get out of the house and be outdoors.

3. Exercise– Try to exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Don’t make it feel like a chore, either. Find an exercise you like, because it is not a punishment. You exercise because you love your body, not because you hate it. Go for a walk, ride your bike, or take a Zumba class.

4. Tea– Tea is a great way to relax your nerves.

5. Laugh more- As much as you may feel like you don’t want to or can’t laugh at the time, you’ll feel much better. Put on your pajamas and a funny movie, or get dressed and go out with your friends. They’ll most likely have you laughing in no time.

6. Journal– Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts in order and recap your day. What is something that happened that you wish you could have changed? What will you do different tomorrow? What happened during the day that made you happy? What happened during the day that caused you stress? Try to focus on the positive, but also don’t ignore the negative. It helps to get it out and write it down.

7. Read quotes before bed– Reading quotes helps inspire you before you go to sleep and put you back in a neutral mood. Set the intention for tomorrow by focusing on positive and motivational quotes.

8. Don’t ignore your feelings- If a negative feeling comes up, don’t ignore it, but rather address it. What made you feel this way? How can you deal with it?
