9. JonBenét Ramsey
One of the most famous unsolved murders to this day, the six year old pageant queen was reported missing by her parents. The family received a ransom note asking for $118,000 for the exchange of their daughter but JonBenét’s body was found dead in their basement eight hours later on December 25 1996. Obvious suspects were Ramsey’s parents and older brother since several handwriting experts matched Mrs. Ramsey’s handwriting to the ransom note. Later DNA developments ruled the parents and brother out. An elementary school teacher, John Mark Karr confessed to Ramsey’s murder but only spoke of details revealed to the public and there was no evidence linking him to the murder. Police believed his false confession was a media stunt. The case is still unsolved almost 20 years later.
