Skin Care routines have become the key to perfect skin, whether you’re looking for solutions to acne, hyperpigmentation or just want that flawless complexion. There are so many options on the market today, but it’s hard to know which is best for your skin type or concerns. However, there are other habits to avoid having a flawless complexion!

The good news is, it’s never too late to develop or adopt healthy skincare habits. You don’t have to go broke, either. Follow these nine simple rules and you’ll see your skin transform for the better in no time at all.

Blackheads and whiteheads

It’s been revealed that those small spots that appear on the skin now and then are called blackheads, whereas the ones who tend to live longer on your skin are known as whiteheads. The difference is in the level of inflammation. Usually, you’ll notice a big impact or feel pain during removal if they’re whiteheads, since bacteria have adhered to your skin, which also affects their size. Treating them with natural ingredients at home can provide significant results after some time. There are also remedies for acne spots treatment depending on their cause – hormonal changes, stress, over-exposure to dirt etc., keep reading!

Using foundation can cause acne

This is a very common concern. Many women think that by using the foundation, they’re blocking their pores and this causes an outbreak. It’s actually your skincare routine that you need to adjust, not your makeup! Foundation is not made of dirt that would block your pores. If it did, dermatologists wouldn’t be suggesting we use them daily. Also, the reason people have more problems with blackheads when wearing foundation has nothing to do with its ingredients or dirt accumulation in your pores but because of the way you remove it at night. If you cleanse too hard while removing it, chances are high for skin irritation and even minor injuries since the skin around your nose is very thin. Don’t use too much strength when cleansing your face! Get rid of all the makeup just with lukewarm water, mild soap, or cleansing milk, then moisturize it well to restore its pH balance. If you have acne-prone skin, do not wash it more than twice a day.

Eating chocolate causes acne

Although having some candy from time to time is okay and won’t harm your skin, it’s of great importance what ingredients it contains – the fewer chemicals, the better! Some chocolates are highly processed and high in fat, which can affect your skin by increasing sebum production far more than necessary. It’s also important how well you treat your body on the inside if you want flawless, healthy, glowing skin from the outside. Fresh vegetables, fruit, and lots of water will do the trick!

Sunscreen causes acne

Sunscreens are not always created equal – if you have sensitive skin or have had unpleasant experiences with sun care products, it’s very possible that some ingredients used for making sunscreen can affect your skin but not all of them will! Some sunscreens may contain oils that cause acne problems, so it’s important to read labels carefully, especially if you have oily or combination skin type. The good news is there are also very light formulas available which only protect you from getting tanned without clogging pores plus they don’t leave white marks on your face after application either!

Using toothpaste will cause blocked pores

Contrary to popular belief, toothpaste ingredients won’t cause hair follicle blockage, neither blackheads nor pimples, no matter how many times you’ve tried it. The reason for this myth is that people use it as an exfoliant because of its rough texture, which causes skin irritation and redness, unfortunately. If you rub your face with toothpaste, all those chemicals can definitely cause burning sensations and allergies. It’s recommended to use only natural scrubs like oatmeal or scrub milk, baking soda or sea salt instead: Oatmeal Face Scrub, Baking Soda, And Sea Salt Face Exfoliator.

Drinking water will erase acne problems

Few people know that dehydration is a major reason for increased oil production and therefore clogged pores. People drink less water on hot summer days, which causes dryness on the skin’s surface and it produces more oil to moisturize itself again. If you have a problem with blocked pores, try drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily, especially when it’s hot outside! Remember this face scrub recipe: DIY: Strawberry Face Scrub, it contains also strawberries which are superb for your skin is rich in Vitamin C besides being cheap and easy to make!

Honey and cinnamon mask will clear your acne within a few days.

If this trick had some truth in it, all of us would surely praise it! But unfortunately, it doesn’t work. All you can get from applying the cinnamon mask on the face is possible allergic reaction and irritation. Honey, if applied alone, won’t even cure your acne. It’s great for your skin but only when used in concentrations which are very low since honey is highly likely to cause more breakouts. If you’re sensitive to anything, don’t try this at home because there is a high risk that instead of getting rid of acne, you’ll have more outbreaks than before!

Cosmetic products will clear acne

The obvious truth is there are some cosmetic products that will help you with unsightly zits, but if they don’t solve the problem on their own, they certainly won’t do anything by themselves either. That’s why you need to find the right cosmetics that will work for you or be ready to try many new ones until you get the one that suits your skin type best.

The products that are right for you will absorb excess oil, prevent breakouts, and won’t cause further irritation.

Exfoliate your skin every day

Exfoliation is recommended twice a week at most because if you exfoliate your skin more often, the natural protective barrier which keeps the dirt away from deeper layers of your skin gets damaged. As a result, dirt gets into your pores easier, acne may appear or existing ones will get worse! Use gentle products with no sharp particles in them because they can cause micro-tears on the skin’s surface, which makes it even more sensitive to bacteria. Keep in mind that over-exfoliated skin produces even more oil than normal, so use light face washes designed especially for oily skin types when you exfoliate.

Popping zits will make them go away faster

It’s better if you don’t pop your zits at all because the only thing that popping does is spreading bacteria and provoking infection! You can try to put ice cubes on the popped-out acne (to reduce swelling) but do not pinch it with your fingers. This way, you increase the risk of getting scars. After pops, use a clay mask or honey mask, which is great at reducing redness and inflammation.
