June 26th is National Forgiveness Day. While sometimes it’s very difficult to forget, having amazing memory is both a gift and a curse, you can learn to forgive. Forgiving someone may not be so easily put into action, depending on what it is they have done. However, this could be doing you more of a favor than the other party involved. Holding onto grudges, especially very old ones, is probably more harmful to you than it is to the other person. Besides, by letting the past be the past, you will be in a better mindset for the future. So, for this year’s Forgiveness Day, here are a few recommendations on who and what you may want to forgive:
1. That mean girl in middle school, high school and at work.
Forgiving that girl does not mean you should be friends. This just signifies that you are too grown of a woman to be dealing with the Regina George’s of the world. Also, you figure that those girls in school had a few growing and learning experiences of their own. At least you hope so.
2. The Starbucks barista who forgot to make your caramel macchiato with nonfat milk.
Sure it may have thrown off your day and may have even upset your stomach just a little, but maybe the barista didn’t hear you. While highly doubtful that your macchiato purposefully contained more fat and calories, you can move on from the incident and give them another chance with your drink preference.
3. That mystery person who scratched your parked car that time.
They didn’t even leave a note, like a decent thoughtful person would. While you were furious that entire day, week, month and let’s face it, you still sort of are, you have to realize what’s done is done and frustration did not solve the problem. The good thing is that there is always a solution, with some money involved of course.
4. Your mom, for that time she lost you for five minutes in the store at the mall.
It was possibly the longest five minutes of your life. The stress and helpless feeling made it a semi traumatic experience of childhood, considering you still bring it up to this day. Mom loves many of the things she occasionally loses.
5. Your brother and/or sister for, well, everything they’ve done.
They did a lot to make you suffer growing up. At least now you realize it was all in good fun… kind of.
6. Former President Bill Clinton for what he did to Hilary.
Too many years have passed. If Hilary forgave her husband for cheating, then perhaps so should everyone else. Besides, he may be the first First Man.
7. MTV for not playing music videos at all any more.
How long has it been since MTV’s main channel has played a music video? The name of the network doesn’t even make sense anymore. Slowly, they took away the music videos, TRL and everything in between. What can you do but just deal with the fact that it will now most likely continue on the path of drama drenched reality TV. It’s okay MTV, the good years were nice.
8. Your dad for not buying you a new car growing up.
You either drove your parent’s car on occasion, an almost broken down one or none at all. While at the time you didn’t understand why, you now know how great it feels to work for your own stuff and that dad probably knew what he was doing.
9. That guy you liked who never called/texted you back ever again.
His loss.
