Channing Dungey, the President of ABC Network, has confirmed adamant discussions with Lucasfilm production about having a Star Wars TV show on ABC. Dungey, who is a personal fan of the Star Wars franchise, wants to confirm a definite yes to a Star Wars show but says nothing is official yet and is still being discussed. He is excited to discuss the possibility of having the Star Wars brand on ABC to bring an increase of young viewership to the network and other lifelong fans.
He also stated that Lucasfilm keeps everything very secretive, compared to their Marvel franchise plans. Dungey stays until they are ready to announce a real confirmation for a Star Wars show on ABC, he won’t know until they make the final decisions.
The Disney/ABC Company has two branches of animated shows based on the Star Wars franchise. Star Wars Rebels, a Disney XD cartoon, tells a Jedi story after ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and before ‘A New Hope’ Star Wars storylines begin. The second show is Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, which starts in between the storylines of ‘Return of the Jedi’ and ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ films.
Simon Kinberg is an executive producer for Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels. He is also planning to write an anthology film based off of the Star Wars franchise. Kinberg is busy in a lot of superhero franchises, which include the X-Men films and upcoming Deadpool sequel.
When discussing his work on Star Wars Rebels, he says that he wishes he had more control of the show’s narratives and future storylines. He also says the one thing he enjoys from the animated series is its tone, which is fun and playful for his younger viewers.
Kinberg is planning to be a part of ABC’s new TV show coming out this fall called Designated Survivor, which is set to star Kiefer Sutherland. The political drama is going to be one of the few shows Simon Kinberg will produce for ABC. Hopefully, he will have the chance to be a part of the possible ABC Star Wars series.
