Over twenty million viewers glued to their sets this past Sunday for the debut of ABC’s new show, “Resurrection”, based on The Returned, Jason Mott’s debut novel. It delves into the questions, the ‘what if’ about death that no one else is willing to ask. Executive Producer Aaron Zelman developed a show about a town where deceased loved ones suddenly start to reappear. How would you feel or react if your loved one that passed away came back today or what would that be like? How would you feel, happy or scared? This is probably something that you’ve never thought about before, because it’s impossible or is it?
Things suddenly change in Arcadia, Missouri when all of their loved ones who have passed start coming back to life. An 8 year-old boy (Landon Gimenez) wakes up alone in a rural Chinese province, with no idea how he got there. The boy, who calls himself Jacob, recalls that his hometown is Arcadia. J. Martin Bellamy (Omar Epps) an immigration agent decides to take Jacob back there. A 60 year-old couple, Henry (Kurtwood Smith) and Lucille Langston (Frances Fisher) now occupies the home that Jacob claims as his own. This couple happens to have lost their son Jacob more than 30 years ago. Although they look different, Jacob identifies them as his parents. His mother is overjoyed to see that her son has returned, but his father, understandably so, is reluctant to accept that Jacob is back. Many people close to the family want answers, including Sheriff Fred Langston (Matt Craven) and his daughter Maggie (Devin Kelley). Fred’s wife drowned while trying to save Jacob 30 years ago. Pastor Tom Hale (Mark Hildreth) seeks a spiritual reason for what happening in the community.
Bellamy and Maggie decide to join forces to figure out what exactly is going on in Arcadia and why. They must figure out what is going on before the rest of the world begins to catch on. On their journey, Maggie finds out some unsettling things about her past as well. They must try to protect Jacob and others from forces that may be out of their control. “Resurrection” airs on Sundays at 9pm on ABC.
