The Acne Studios Resort 2015 line debuted on Mon., Jun. 9th. The collection was inspired by a mix of practicality and individualism, resembling the photographic work of Jeff Wall.
Creative Director of Acne Studios, Johnny Johansson, discussed the color pallet for this line, “The natural color scale is constructed from a base of white, beige and grey with spontaneous accents and combinations with faded camouflage prints and scratched leather surfaces.”He emphasized how this laid-back look was all about going back to the basics.
There is certainly a sense of ease and relaxation throughout the collection. It included items such as knit trousers, large shorts, wilted trenches, etc. The mini wedge, white sneakers were Stan Smith inspired. They even resembled cycling shoes. The other metallic flat sandals were slightly more glamorous.
The collection still includes Acne Studios’ trademark looks such as leather and denim with jersey and poplin materials.
Johansson, spoke about how Acne Studios has managed to put a creative spin on basic items, “But it’s the way they wear them- tucked in, with sleeves rolled up.” He added, “Generic clothing, but so chic. I thought, How do we do that and make it new?”His emphasis on a yellow sweatshirt in the collection is an instance where this attitude shows through. Even though a sweatshirt is a basic item, it is tactfully designed. It is “not oversized, but generous,” as Johansson describes.
The silhouettes were easy and fluid. Johansson commented on his collection, “Sometimes fashion can be too considered and too spectacular. Then you end up in the trap of stating the obvious.” His intention of making the line look effortlessly cool certainly worked in his favor.
