Alexander Wang Releases First Fragrance!

Designer Alexander Wang surprised everyone at his Balenciaga resort 2015 show this week in New York by revealing he will be launching a fragrance for the French brand in mid-October. The sought-after scent will be sold in over 300 stores in the U.S. including department stores Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, as well as cosmetics outlet Sephora.

According to a report by Women’s Wear Daily, the label’s new scent titled B Balenciaga has been under works since December 2012 when Wang took over as creative director. Wang explains that formulating the fragrance was emotional and required a lot of “soul searching” in the same way that designing clothes does for him.

WWD reports that the scent consists of “top notes lily of the valley bell, violet green leaves accord, and green edamame accord; a heart of iris root and cedarwood, and a base of ambrette seeds and cashmere wood.” It seems silly to get excited about a scent without actually even smelling it, but the woody B Balenciaga sounds pretty enticing.

“I’ve always been attracted to scents with strong green notes, and we also added a darker woody flair to it,” Wang explains.

He continues: “It was exciting working on the scent and going to the essence of the brand, to its DNA, and to also combine that with my vision.”

For the ad campaign, which will be featured in various fashion and beauty magazines, Wang again recruited Model Anna Ewers and photographer Steven Klein, the pair that rocked his Spring 2014 label.
