An American Girls Guide to Shopping in Spain

When given the chance to visit the beautiful country of Spain, I jumped at the opportunity. Learning about the cultural differences and about spanish fashion trends has been quite the experience. There’s an important lesson that we, as American women, can learn from the ladies of Spain. But first, the shopping!

When shopping for clothing, always come prepared and know what your European size is, very few stores have an American to European size conversion chart. The popular retail stores, depending on your location, are vastly different than the American brands. Lefties, Mango, and Stradivarius are common throughout any major city and smaller town. When looking for “true to size” clothing though, Lefties is the best retailer in Spain. The clothes are unique and fashion forward, but they still have the basics to create the perfect outfit. Another amazing thing about Lefties is that they’re extremely affordable in comparison to American stores.

The trends for summer are more bohemian for retailers in Spain. I’ve noticed that the colors are more vibrant and the patterns are busier, which brings me to the lesson.

Spanish women, no matter what size they are or what retailer they shop at, have looking fabulous as their number one priority. The women do not simply dress in the “plain jane” manor due to not being able to find clothing for them. These women are creative! They take pieces from other stores and find the accessories to match, and never are they without a corresponding purse or clutch. I believe that’s the true difference between American and Spanish women. These women are willing to take fashion risks with their wardrobe and it’s been successful. They take pride in their look on a daily basis and it’s their fashionista spirit that drives them to look amazing all the time. That’s a lesson I believe everyone can learn and work towards.

As my time in this country comes to an end, I have a complete new perspective on style, trends, fashion, and how to be a fabulous female!
