Carole Radziwill brought Real Housewives of New York City viewers as well as fellow cast member Dorinda Medley on an emotional journey with her to London on last night’s episode. There were tears, but not the usual gut wrenching, dramatic sobs that follow after an argument with the ladies of New York City.
Carole had to make the difficult journey to London to pick up her late husband’s ashes, as they were stored in a church that was being converted into condos. She brought along her friend Dorinda for support, as she lost her husband as well and is the one housewife who truly understands how Carole feels.
“I’m kind of producing this whole story in my head, I don’t have all the pieces and I don’t have all the dialogue,” Carole said. “I’ve obviously never done this before—I don’t know anyone who has ever done this before. It’s making me a little anxious.”
Carole was able to get through the difficult situation which naturally brought back past memories Carole understandably referred to as “poignant” and “uncomfortable.”
“I never thought I’d have to come back and get it…You never met my husband, but he had a very highly developed sense of humor and he was quite the practical joker, so when I read the email from the secretary, I thought, ‘OK, this is something that Anthony would really appreciate’—me having to come back,” Carole said. “This is probably the biggest practical joke he could play on me from beyond.”
“I do wish we had one more day to tell him that I’m OK and he’s OK, but you don’t get that one more day,” she said. “I’d just like one more day. That’s all. Just one.”
Carole brought the urn back to her hotel room and laid down next to it, letting her emotions run through her.
Viewers witnessed a very real and personal discussion of life, death, and life after death between Dorinda and Carole. “We’re having this kind of wonderfully strange conversations about our late husbands,” Carole said.
It’s been an emotional month for the Housewives franchise. This past month on The Real Housewives of Orange County, Vicki Gunvalson allowed Bravo to air the footage of her receiving the news of her mother’s passing. The network and executive producer, Andy Cohen, received some backlash for showing such personal and intense footage, but Vicki backed them up by stating, “It’s part of my reality. I lost my mother. I signed up for all areas of my life to be exposed – the good and the bad.”
Carole also seems very happy with how the highly emotional London trip panned out. “I wouldn’t have done it any differently,” Carole said. “I’m really happy to have Anthony’s urn back in my life, which is where it should be.”
