Will “AWOK”, which stands for “Anna Wintour OK”, be Nike’s next “It” sneaker?

The Vogue editor’s sign off on pages in Vogue before publication is now stamped to into the soles of Nike footwear.

The Vogue editor in chief and Condé Nast artistic director linked with Nike’s Air Jordan brand for a sneaker collaboration, according to Vogue.

According to a 2018 Page Six report, The team at Vogue has joined forces with Nike’s Jordan Brand to create a limited-edition women’s capsule collection of sneakers that features reimaginings of two of the sportswear company’s most iconic shoes, the Air Jordan 1 and the Air Jordan 3 SE.

Vogue’s Air Jordan 1 will come in red or white leather with a crimson tongue concealed by a key-ring zipper. It will be available in select stores and on the SNKRS app starting July 21.

Vogue’s Air Jordan 3 SE will feature a tweed upper, the sneaker is available in red and black. The style will be on sale beginning Sept. 7.

According to a 2018 Women’s Wear Daily report, It’s a strange activewear start for Wintour. Not only is the collaboration being introduced just as the world’s soccer — or football — obsession peaks with the World Cup finale this weekend. Besides, the editor is known as a big tennis fan. To try to connect the dots, Wintour made a video that shows her sitting at her desk, shooting a small basketball into a plastic hoop on the wall each time she completes one of her editorial duties. The spot ends with the editor walking off after a series of perfect shots.

Vogue Magazine shared the video on Instagram with the caption reading “The ultimate fashion sneaker: Air Jordans, inspired by Anna Wintour.
Every Vogue editor remembers their first AWOK, the little acronym (short for Anna Wintour Okay) scrawled on each print page by our inimitable editor in chief. It is the ultimate sign of approval in this office and the wider fashion world. Now, it is being applied to a delightful new venture with @jumpman23: a limited-edition capsule of Air Jordans as edited by Vogue and inspired by the woman in charge. For the collaboration, Jordan Brand has reimagined two versions of its iconic sneaker. Tap the link in our bio to see both.”
