In honor of Band of Outsiders’ tenth anniversary, Barneys New York and actor Aziz Ansari hosted a dinner celebrating Band of Outsiders’ designer Scott Sternberg at the Café Stella in Silverlake, Los Angeles.
“I’ve known Scott like six or seven years, and remember doing one of my first photo shoots where you get to pick your clothes. I kept picking Band of Outsiders, then when I needed to get clothes, I remembered that and met Scott, and we’ve been friends throughout the years,” Ansari told WWD.
Known for its laidback-prep lifestyle, Band of Outsiders has made it big with cozy sweaters (like this Crewneck Hoodie with Sleeve Ties),

blazers (like this double-breasted check one),

and fresh interpretations of wardrobe classics—like these braided-trim sweatpants.

Other stars in attendance included actor Adam Scott, singer Nicole Simone, and artist Alex Israel.
Ten years strong, and Band of Outsiders has still managed to remain a stealth force in the fashion industry, but what is Sternberg’s secret?
“Fashion is about being superfresh, so you gotta be careful that you don’t overthink that because it’s just gotta be fluid. In terms of the business, I think about purpose and what I want to make more of and less of. Up until now, it’s been really fluid, and you can’t take that for granted because a lot of people are doing really great stuff, so you have to focus on what you do really well,” the designer told WWD.
Do you agree with Sternberg’s concept of fashion?
