Bloating can be difficult to deal with, especially when in the summer when all you want to wear is a bathing suit. Whether you’re at a BBQ or on the beach, this is the last situation you want to have to deal with. Luckily, there are some things you can do to deal with bloating.
Foods that are high in salt or sugar should be avoided. They cause you to retain water, making you feel bloated. Even some fruits and vegetables contain ingredients that will make you feel fat. Fruits such as apples, and vegetables such as broccoli contain things that our stomachs are not capable of digesting, making you feel fat.
There are also habits that you can break to avoid bloating. Activities such as smoking cigarettes, using straws, chewing gum, and eating too fast all cause you to take in extra amounts of air. The excess air taken in when doing any of these tasks will leave you feeling bloated because air gets trapped in your stomach, as it goes down when you’re eating. If you feel yourself getting bloated after any of these actions, try to cut down on them, or slow down the rate that you perform them.
If you are in the unfortunate situation where you are already bloated, there are things you can do to help stop it. Drinking water is a good way to do this because it will speed up your digestion, and help to move the sodium out of your body faster.
Even if the last thing you feel like doing after eating some junk food is exercise, you should do it. Exercise has a lot of benefits, and helping your food digest is one of them. When you feel yourself in that situation, put on your running shoes and take a 30 minute power walk. This way your food can digest, and you can avoid any pains in your side.
If you want to be able to avoid the bloating problem all together, there are some things that won’t cause that problem. Water and tea help in both digestion, won’t cause bloating. There is nothing in water that can make you bloat, because there is nothing in water. Try and avoid high sugar drinks such as soda and stick to water during days when you need your stomach to look good. If you don’t want to just drink water all the time, because despite how good it is for you, it will get boring, try tea. Certain teas, such as peppermint tea, help aid in digestion which will help with bloating.
A good snack for the summer is plain yogurt mixed with your favorite berries. There are so many yogurts out there that advertise how good they are for your digestive system, and despite how silly some of the commercials may be, they do work. Although it is a dairy, which is not good for bloating, yogurt has bacteria in it that helps your food digest better which will leave your tummy flat.
Numerous things can create a bloating sensation, such as undigested food or water retention, when you know what to avoid, and how to fix it, your life will be a lot easier.
