Beauty Standards: No More Caring About the Fashion Trends Men Hate

The society we live in is extremely misogynistic. Women and their bodies are objectified and sexualized in the media daily and feminists are made out to be hairy creatures  that hate men. It’s becoming harder and harder for females to believe that they have any autonomy over what they do with their body.

To make matters worse magazines and fashion or lifestyle websites often post articles about fashion trends that men hate. It perpetuates this notion that women’s bodies are for men to look at.

Women shouldn’t care about the trends that men hate because what an individual does with their body is their decision. Women shouldn’t have to worry about how men will respond to their body, especially since the only opinion that should matter is their own.

Body image is a huge part of our society. There are unrealistic beauty standards, limited amounts of body positivity and not much discussion on boosting the self-esteem of females.

What needs to be addressed, in my opinion, is this notion of men having the final say in what women choose to do.

Fashion is one of the areas where women are often looked down upon for having an interest in. Except, it is also an industry heavily influenced by the perceptions of men. Women are not told to look good for themselves, but to look good for men. Women need to be taught that they aren’t here to look good for anyone other than themselves.

No more articles about what guys find attractive. No more articles about the trends men hate. No more articles perpetuating this notion that women have to dress based on the perceptions of men.

Women should decide if they want to wear trendy clothes or not because it’s their decision. No woman should lose her sense of agency over what men hate women wearing or doing.
