Bee Wade discovered her passion for make up artistry while she worked on the set of her husbands photo shoot. Anthony Hamilton, her husband, was an up and coming photographer who needed a make up artist on set. At that time, neither of them could afford one because they lost their jobs. As a result, they relied on their savings account to live. However, it was through that humbling experience that they realized their true strengths.
In 2011, Hamilton decided to pick up photography as a hobby after he lost his job. After realizing his potential, his hobby turned into a cinematography business called MediaLifted. As his business began to soar, Wade chose to stay at home and take care of their newborn baby.
“When he told me that he was going to pick up photography, I felt like that decision came out of nowhere,” Wade said.
I’ve been trying to figure out for the longest time what I want to do with my hair . To loc or not? To grow it out…ugh. So going through pics I’ve decided that I like my hair short. So I’m going to go get my tapered cut refreshed and maintain that. So I’ll just be taking the sides down and the back. No matter what I do, I do know that I rock natural hair well. ☺️ #naturalhairdoescare #curlbox #myhaircrush #taperedcut #thecutlife #4chairchicks
However, if it weren’t for Hamilton’s decision to pursue photography, who knew if Wade would have discovered such a vibrant, colorful future? With just an 88 Shimmer Coastal Scents Palette and one make up brush, everyone was in awe of the work that she created while she was on set with her husband.
“I didn’t think that I did anything special, but when the model got up and looked in the mirror, she started to cry,” Wade said.
“She couldn’t believe that the woman that she saw in the mirror was her,” she continued.
At that moment, she felt inspired to pursue make up artistry because she was “addicted to making people feel good,” especially during the times when she didn’t feel that way herself.
The Waterbury, CT native felt determined to pursue a career in make up artistry that she attended as many networking events that she could. One day, she looked for an event online and saw that Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Porsha Williams, was hosting a launch party. When she arrived, she gave her business card to the Editor-in-Chief of Urban Lux Magazine, spoke with him briefly, and when she went home, she received a comment notification under one of her Instagram pictures asking if she received his email.
According to Wade’s blog, allthingsbee.com, she “ran to her computer,” logged into her email account and saw the subject line “Porsha Stewart/Urban Lux Photoshoot!” Shortly after she did William’s make up, Wade’s work was featured on Essence.com.
Everything that Wade has accomplished thus far has been more than what she has ever expected, but with the help of God, friends, and family, she discovered a gift that has touched the lives of many women.
