Charleston-based blogger Julia Engels is known for her style, which imbues a lot of old-world glamour. One only has to take a peek at her website, Gal Meets Glam, to get an understanding of the blogger’s aesthetic: Powdery pastels, typically in the form of dresses that are reminiscent of the 1950s.
It is no surprise then that the Gal Meets Glam line at Nordstrom should mimic Engels’s style; it is largely composed of many classically feminine pieces that somehow hold on to that retro nostalgia while still maintaining a modern twist. Below are a few picks from the collection:
The Audrey Wrap Dress comes in a pretty pale pink and seems super flattering. There is something about the silhouette that seems reminiscent of a very famous Audrey from the era that Engels so loves. (Priced at $188)
The Bridget Embroidered Dress is a strong blue shade with irresistible floral embroidery. It seems like the most bohemian piece of the entire collection and likely would make a very cute addition to anyone’s summer wardrobe. (Priced at $220)
The Kaye Fit and Flare dress just scream 50s. It would probably be hard to not to feel like a star of the silver screen while wearing it. (Priced at $158)
The Bette Pleated Mini Dress has a lot going for it; its vibrant blue color is eye-catching, the classically feminine details such as the bows and pleating are not so much that they’re overwhelming, and the overall flowy-ness is enough to make anyone want to twirl around in it for hours on end. (Priced at $158)
This Esther Shadow Branch Chiffon dress is both relaxed and elegant. Paired with a loose, side-swept braid like it is here; the dress seems like a worthy choice for many occasions. (Priced at $178)
This Darla Cotton Toile Shirtdress brings one word to mind: Cute! The blue pattern gives it a rather whimsical vibe. The dress could be dressed up or down, either with a cute pair of sandals or some nude heels.
This Augusta Off-the-Shoulder dress is slightly more formal. Definitely meant to be worn as a more dressed up look. (Priced at $210)
