Everyone needs time to think. Whether you’re working through writer’s block or debating on what to get your boyfriend for his birthday, actively thinking is a beneficial process. Although it would be great if ideas miraculously sprung up in our minds, this doesn’t always happen. Sometimes taking a break from the task at hand can lead to those sudden light bulb moments. Generally this happens when you’re relaxed, yet occupied. Here are some of the best places to think, and what you can do to encourage those brain blasts.

1. Shower

Showers are known to be relaxing, allowing you to decompress after a long day. Perhaps for the first time all day, your mind is restful and meditative. While you’re working on shampooing your hair, your subconscious can focus on other tasks. In order to help the process along, try using different products and scents in the shower. If you’re used to using apricot facial scrub, try switching to vanilla. The sense of smell is a powerful one and the change can spur thoughts, memories, even ideas. You may even find a product you like more than the one you used originally. To keep track of your thoughts, you can use a waterproof notepad.
