The humble singer-songwriter, Lionel Richie was honored last night, June 29th, with an Lifetime Achievement Award from BET. With tributes from the soulful John Legend singing “Hello,” the sassy Ledisi singing “Brick House” and gospel singer Yolanda Adams stunning the audience with “Jesus is Love.” The honoree mentioned  how he was happy he sang the song first because Yolanda did an  astonishing job rekindling it.

But, out of curiosity, did anyone notice Lionel’s Last name spelled wrong? Well, as the tweet says, the banner introducing Lionel, mistakenly spelled his last name “Ritchie” instead of “Richie.” Well ‘Hello,’ BET’s writers should have done a better job with proof reading before the show. With over 25 million viewers last night, this most likely will haunt BET for a while.

However, the incorrect last name was the least of their worries. The singer blessed his fans with some promising words, “Soul is a feeling, not a color. Talent is a God-given gift and not a category. And out of the box , out of the box is that magical place where talent — true talent– goes to live and thrive and breathe…”Lionel hit the stage performing songs like “Easy Like Sunday Morning” and other timeless records of his. You can view the tribute and highlights of the show on BET.

Regardless, BET Award’s, you were off your game, making you June’s #FailOfTheMonth!
