Who knew such a fun and comedic series could ever be banned? Apparently, China doesn’t agree with some of Sheldon’s theories, and has banned the nerdy sitcom, along with several other American shows, from their streaming Sites.
While it is not unusual for Chinese government officials to ban shows, it’s unfathomable in America. No matter what the content, it’s still somewhat accessible to American citizens. It doesn’t work the same way in China, however. Shows such as “The Big Bang Theory”, “NCIS”, “The Good Wife”, and “The Practice”, have all been banned due to content that was deemed to violate policies of Chinese practice.
The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television announced that all American and British shows would now be reviewed and approved before making them available to viewers. Apparently, the government in China plans to seize and control more aspects society and media, and Chinese users are not happy. Chinese Commentator, Wu Yue Sanren boldly quotes, “Government should be a referee and supervisor, but not a prison guard.”
Despite the content of these shows, and possible “violations” they may have against government policy, the question arises: does the government (any government) actually possess the right to make such final and unquestionable decisions?
