Netflix has officially given longtime scientist Bill Nye his own talk show that is expected to launch in Spring 2017. This Wednesday the streaming service provider announced that Bill Nye’s new show “Bill Nye Saves the World” will talk about science and how it impact’s our society, pop culture, and politics.

Each of the show’s episodes is set to tackle a specific topic from the scientific view point, discussing myths and rebuking anti-scientific claims made by possible politicians, religious leaders, and industry CEO’s.

Nye’s show marks his long-awaited return to TV since he became a household name in the 90’s for his Emmy Winning TV show Bill Nye the Science Guy. The show only ran for five seasons and has since been remembered by millennials who viewed his show mostly in their middle school and/or high school science classes.

Bill Nye commented that since the start of the Science Guy series, he’s been on a mission to help change the world by getting people all around the world to be excited about the fundamentals of science. He stated that he is really excited to be working with Netflix to develop the new show where he is going to discuss complex scientific issues we are facing today. Nye also says he is planning to do an episode on GMO’s or Genetically Modified Foods, climate change, and vaccines. Nye concluded his statement saying that he hopes with the right science and good writing, he believes the Netflix team and himself are going to entertain and inform the new show’s audience. He also stated that with accurate information, he can see how viewers interested in science can change the world a little bit.

“Bill Nye Saves the World” is Netflix production that is being produced by Bunim/Murray Production company. Executive producers include Gil Goldschein and Julie Pizzi from the Bunim/Murray Productions company. The showrunner for the new Netflix show is going to be Michael Naidus, who is known for his work on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Mike Drucker is going to serve as Head Comedy Writer for the show. Also last but not least, legendary author, award-winning science communicator, and astronomer Phil Plait will act as Head Science Writer for the show.
