New York Fashion Week time is almost upon us once again! The Spring/Summer 2019 season kicks off September 6th, 2018 and CAAFD (The Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers) has announced that Sania Studio will be a featured designer!
Sania Studio is a label founded by Sania Maskaitya, who has been praised as one of Pakistan’s most lauded young designers. A graduate from the prestigious Indus Valley School of Art & Architecture. Maskaitya established a namesake label in 2010, and since then has made a name for herself with the colorful, vibrant patterns and notable textiles in her designs. Namely her signature capes.
Sania Studio is fairly recent for Maskaitya’s, as the brand’s release last year was her first take on providing a western line to the Pakistani market. Sania Studio had been available in London for three years, but 2017 was the first time that the brand was offered in Pakistan.
However, Maskaitya has not chosen to forego her cultural roots in this collection. Sania Studio draws upon many Pakistani influences. According to Maskaitya, “It’s not purely western wear, as in you won’t find just halter, backless, and sleeveless tops. We have kurta like cuts, tunics, as well as layering and separates.”
Essentially, Maskaitya wants this brand to be a reflection of current western trends as well as the styles seen during summers in Pakistan. “The tunics we designed before would usually get lost amidst everything else, so this is now restraining all that and bringing it our together.”
