Cartoon Network has announced their beloved animated series Adventure Time is coming to an end in 2018, during the show’s ninth season. Although Finn and Jake the dog’s epic saga might be ending, the cult classic series will remain in infamy with children and adults alike.
Adventure Time debuted on Cartoon Network on April, 2010 and since then the series has released eight seasons which total up to 142 episodes of animated adventures. The series that revolves around the post-apocalyptic hero duo, Jake and Finn, exploring the land of Ooo was created by Pendleton Ward.
Ward commented that Adventure Time was a passion project not only for himself, but for all the crew members who poured their heart into the art and storylines of the series favorite characters. The series creator stated that the Adventure Time team worked hard to give a genuine and unique flare to every episode. Even though, Ward commented, that each episode was personal to each one of the members on their production team, he stated that they had to add laughable jokes for everyone in the show.
Ward lastly commented that he is proud of how long the series audience stayed connected with the show and how because of that, Adventure Time will always be remembered in pop culture history.
Adventure Time not only has become a cult classic, but it was also rated to have the highest number of adult followers in an animated series. The Cartoon Network series also has gained six Emmy awards and one Peabody award.
The announcement was received on social media soon after Cartoon Network also reported that another one of their most recognizable series, The Regular Show, was going to be cancelled after the show’s eight season.
The ninth and final season premiere date for Adventure Time has yet to be announced, but the series is expected to return this late 2016 for it’s eight season.
