The cat’s out of the bag and, along with Jack, is hopping onto Target’s shelves. The superstore introduced its latest children’s line, Cat & Jack, at Brooklyn Bridge Park last Thursday.
The line isn’t only for the kids, it was designed by them too! Brian Cornell. Target’s chairman and chief executive officer, tells WWD, ““We wanted their energy and enthusiasm. The brand is off to a great start. I’m counting on it being a $1 billion brand.”
The collection is off to a star-studded start as the launch party attracted celebrity mothers Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Rachel Bilson, Camila Alves and a special appearance by Blake Lively’s bouncing baby bump. As the celebs joined other mothers with their children in tow, the sweltering ‘heat dome’ conditions weren’t enough to deter their enthusiasm for the new line.
Dewan-Tatum gushed over the collection as she remarked on her own daughter, Everly, and her fashion tastes, “I would want to know what Evy would choose for this!”
Bilson spoke of her 20-month-old daughter and her already budding fashion sense, adding, “She does [like fashion], a little too much. She’s already not letting me dress her. She likes pants, she has to have pants on, and she’s definitely opinionated.”
As child to her designer mother, Alves can relate to growing up in the fashion world. That being sad, she applauds the line’s conception, “This is so exciting, to be able to have a kids line that is inspired by them.”
And as some of us hope and pray that Blake’s pregnancy style will somehow inspire the actress to produce her own maternity line, the actress seems perfectly content in merely reminiscing on her own kooky fashion sense as a child:
“I would wear some of my mom’s clothes — she would take things like women’s blouses and turn them into dresses for me. I always dressed a lot more expressively than a lot of kids at my school, and sometimes kids were mean about that, and sometimes they weren’t, depending on what school — I went to 16 different schools, so at some schools it was accepted and other schools it wasn’t. But I’m glad my mom taught me that at a young age.”
The Cat & Jack line satisfies the typical navy and blue, school uniform requirements, while also appealing to the little Lively’s of the world. Children can indulge in pink galaxy leggings, dinosaur graphics and animal-themed crossbody bags.
