Chanel’s newest chapter will be released on May 23. Chapter 11 is concerned with the colors of Chanel and has only on Wed. May 21, released a tantalizing promo.

The video features an elegant British female voice-over who briefly describes why each color is included in the chapter along with enhancing images of these colors. It is a visually stunning and it is a bit of an eloquent tease. The colors are: gold, beige, white, black, and red and each has in-depth and extensive reasoning for their selection.

Gold because it embraces both the genuine and the faux.

The narrator notes that gold is reminiscent of St. Mark’s cathedral in Venice, the Byzantine Empire, as well as the Baroque Art which inspired Gabrielle Chanel. These images evoke thoughts of dazzling glory. It is also stated that gold reminds Gabrielle of the costume jewelry which she frequently designed. Thereby, gold is truly worthy because it is grandiose as well as synthetic through art.

Beige because it is warm, simple, natural.

Beige is labeled as the color of the outdoors. It is also deemed as the shade of a natural complexion which looks healthy and sun-kissed. Beige represents the element of nature in beauty and the elegance of simplicity.

White because in the beginning there was white.

White is also regarded because it “illuminates the face and enhances beauty.” Evidently, there is a purity and cleanliness about white. The narrator says that is reminds Gabrielle of the nuns from her childhood and the communion given to her by her father. For Coco this a nostalgic color.

Black because it accentuates the essential.

Black is also esteemed for establishing depth among other colors and standing out against a white label. It is also praised for shining in a make-up case and enhancing lashes while boldly lining eyes. According to Gabrielle Chanel, black exposes a woman’s radiance.

Red because it’s the color of life, of blood.

Red is universally perceived a carnal color. It is a reminder of one’s humanity by evoking passion. Red is also celebrated for its ability when used as the lining of a purse to quickly find items. Perhaps most significantly, red is chosen because it was Gabrielle’s signature look and “declaration of good spirit.” Red sustains a woman’s power and life.
