Charles James comes to The Met

Welcome to the inaugural exhibition of the recently renovated Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Featured in the exhibit will be renowned fashion designer and dress specialist Charles James (1906-1978). James’ haute couture will be presented in two locations: special exhibition galleries, and the show will examine the intricate design process of one of the world’s best couturiers.

The display is categorized to emphasize the designer’s revolutionary creative progress. The categories are Spirals & Wraps, Platonic Form, Drapes & Folds, and Anatomical Cut, and we can follow James’ fashion evolve as we continue throughout the show.
