Rumors have been buzzing about the possibility of an engagement between actress Charlize Theron, 38, and actor Sean Penn, 53. According to the rumors floating around, the pair has plans to wed in Theron’s home country, South Africa, this summer during a film shooting. Now that Theron and Penn have made it to Capetown, the speculation is seeming more plausible.
After eight months of dating, rumors about an engagement between the two spiraled after Theron was photographed sporting a diamond ring. According to The New York Daily News, the 18-karat, yellow-gold bling was spotted on her left hand’s ring finger as she walked through LAX on Wednesday.

A source also mentioned that the duo “wants to get married very soon,” according to UsWeekly. The source also noted how the couple has been friends for 18 years, during which time “Charlize has seen Sean grow up.” The insider went on to reveal that “Charlize always intended to have another child.” Theron has a son named Jackson, 2, while Penn has two children named Dylan, 23, and Hopper, 20.
However, sources have told People that the stunning Anita Ko ring, which was valued at $4,900, was merely a gift. Additionally, Hopper told UsWeekly that she has “no idea” about any wedding plans. However, she did comment fondly on the pair, stating, “They’re both extremely strong personalities, and they’re very intelligent, so conversation lasts between them.”
Theron told Vogue this past May, “I never had the dream of the white dress.” Nonetheless, a close insider told People in April that the couple’s friends wouldn’t “be surprised” by a wedding.
Wedding rumors have surrounded Theron and Penn since they first began dating publicly in January. Both Theron and Penn have avoided confronting these rumors.
Last week, the couple was seen arriving to the Mount Nelson Hotel with Javier Bardem. Bardem co-stars with Theron in “The Last Face,” for which Penn is making his directorial debut. The film will complete filming by the fall and be released in 2015.
