For a long time now, late night television has been dominated by men. Chelsea Handler changed that when she partnered with the E! Network to create “Chelsea Lately.” Unfortunately, her contract with E! ends this year. Handler has already announced that the “Chelsea Lately” show will be through on August 26th.
“Chelsea Lately” premiered in July 2007 and quickly became a major player for the network. She slowly began to dominate a field that, until now, featured mostly male comedians, like Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon and now Seth Meyers. Rumors had been rampant for a while now, but her announcement of her finale has made it official.
Handler is the only female comic on late night TV. Although, Handler is supposedly is looking for a replacement already. She explains that a DUI led her to comedy, always being honest about her addiction to Vodka. “Are you there Vodka, It’s me, Chelsea” was her best selling book back in 2008.
There will be a month long celebration of special episodes to celebrate the show and its seven year run. Handler has four months left on her E! contract. “I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I’m glad I went” she told CNN News.
It is unclear what she will do next.
