On Tuesday, May 6th, the cast of Clueless reunited in L.A. for a nostalgic screening of the film. It has almost been 20 years since the cult-classic was first released in July of 1995. Among the attendees were: Alicia Silverstone, 37, Stacy Dash, 47, and Elisa Donovan, 43. Director Amy Heckerling was also present for this momentous event. The cast was in good spirits and wistful when reflecting on the creation of the film. Remembrances of Brittany Murphy,who met an untimely death in 2009, were certainly sentimental.
Heckerling spoke about how the film was loosely based off of Jane Austen’s book “Emma”, 1815. Interestingly, none of the crew members knew about this relation until after the filming had finished. Alicia Silverstone expressed how impressed she was by Heckerling’s execution of this. Heckerling also did her research prior to filming. She hung out at Beverly Hills High School to truly grasp the culture, and her familiarity with this culture was definitely evident through her accurate humor. Silverstone was merely 18 years old during filming, so being Cher Horowitz must feel like a different life.

Little White Dress
During a classic scene in the movie Cher comes down stairs in a skimpy white dress. Her father asks what she’s wearing and she responds, “a dress”, “says who?” he replies. “Calvin Klein” she defiantly whines. It’s moments like this that made Clueless such a success and it’s outfits like this that inspired a generation. In 2010 this dress was re-released by Calvin Klein. Currently, spaghetti strapped body-con dresses are becoming popular again.
Knee socks
Cher’s adorable, preppy knee-socks are one of her trademarks. This accessory has had a strong association with the 90s. However, as time would have it, these high-socks are making a come-back. There’s no denying how charmingly girlish they are.
Coordinates
Coordinate outfits not only seem outdated but dorky. Yet, it is obsolete styles like these which are always on the brink of a comeback. Although such outfits have been altered to appeal to the current public, they are still highly reminiscent of Cher Horowitz.
