‘Cursed Child’ Debut Ends the ‘Harry Potter’ Era

Yesterday was a very special birthday belonging to J.K. Rowling and her famous creation, Harry Potter. As such, it was the release of what is to be officially the final installment of the Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

The format now on sale is a script, based on a new story by J.K Rowling, John Tiffany and playwright Jack Thorne. The story takes place 19 years after “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” and follows Harry and his youngest son, Albus. Harry is now an employee at the Ministry of Magic, and his children are headed off to Hogwarts. Albus Severus Potter and his host of friends including Draco’s son Scorpius Malfoy and Ron and Hermione’s daughter Rose Weasley, get into adventures worthy of their notorious parents.

Here is the official synopsis:

“It was always difficult being Harry Potter, and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband. And a father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with the past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest sun Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: Sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”

After the play’s premiere, J.K. Rowling officially stated that the new story will be the end of an era. She said, “[Harry] goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we’re done…This is the next generation, you know…So, I’m thrilled to see it realized beautifully but, no, Harry is done now.”

Fans, however; should not despair. Fans who can’t make it to London to see “Cursed Child” may eventually the chance to see the stage play. Rowling stated before the show: “I’d like as many Potter fans to see it as possible.” A Broadway run of the play is already being talked about, but Rowling said, “I’d like it to go wider than that.”

At present, Warner Brothers does have rights to the play at the moment, which may indicate that it could eventually make its way to the big screen. And another of Rowling’s wizard creations, Newt Scamander, will make his film debut in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which hits theaters in November.

So far, fans have been ecstatic about seeing “Cursed Child” on stage, and there is every indication that it is a tale worthy of the Harry Potter name. Little details have been released, as Rowling urged her fans to keep the show’s secrets in an effort to keep its magic alive. The script on sale now is a special edition, used by the main actors of the play for rehearsals. It will be on sale only until early 2017, so get your copy now.
