When tearing through your dresser, pulling out all of that old denim and clutching the scissors in your hand, remember these four steps!
1) Pick your jeans:

Make sure, when selecting the jeans you want to cut, that you pick carefully. Think about what kind of jean shorts you want. If you want high-waisted, looser bottoms, be sure you look for a pair of boyfriend style jeans. If you would rather a tighter pair, look for your skinny jeans. There are tons of different colors, washes, fits, rips and details. Choose wisely!
2) Length: After trying on your old jeans, figure out how long you want your future shorts to be and mark the length on the jeans in order to ensure accuracy. Draw a line with pencil eyeliner, or anything that can be washed off. Fold the pants at the line so you can draw an even line on the back. Cutting them too long is always better, as you can keep adjusting, rather than cutting too much off! If you plan on hemming or cuffing the shorts, add about an inch for the fold over.

3) Cut: Cut your jeans with a sharp pair of scissors to avoid unclean strings or jagged edges. If you wish to hem the bottoms, you can do so with a sewing machine.
4) Decorate- Feel free to further distress your new jean shorts with scissors, razors, cheese graters, or knives. You can even add lace detail, studs, bleach or paint. Remember, have fun with them!
