Are you no longer excited about going to work? Do you lack the same passion you started out with at the beginning of your career? Are you questioning what you’re doing when you’re at work and wondering why you’re there? Here are a few ways to find out if you’re in the right field.
1. Are you always worn out and exhausted?
If the answer is yes, then your field may be causing that. That notion is reinforced if you feel like you haven’t done anything to warrant that exhaustion. You may feel drained because you are putting work and effort into something that you are not getting anything out of it. It’s one thing to come home exhausted after a day of work and feeling fulfilled and its a nother thing to actually come home and feel like you wasted your day. Take a moment and think about the benefits your job or field is giving you; if you can’t think of one decide if it’s worth continuing or not.
2. Do you think you made the right choice?
Are you feeling regretful about the choices you made to get you where you are? If you’re wishing you studied something else or chose a different field, then you’re probably in the wrong one. Take some time to evaluate what you really want to do, there’s no point in subjecting yourself to something you don’t want to do.
3. Do you feel like your skills aren’t being utilized?
If you think you could be making a difference with your skills elsewhere, then the field is not right for you. You have probably thought of a career where you think your skills can be utilized better. Recognize your skills; don’t do something that isn’t worth your level of skills. Why work for less than you deserve when you could do more for yourself and others?
