Details About The Mindy Project Season 3 Revealed

Mindy Kaling has brilliantly perfected “girl humor” with her show The Mindy Project on FOX, which she both writes and produces. The Mindy Project hilariously pokes fun at Hollywood romance cliches, while simultaneously connecting with women ages 14-40.

Fox chairman and CEO Peter Rice, declared his enthusiasm over the series, stating: “I love The Mindy Project. I think it’s really funny and smart. I think [Mindy’s] a great showrunner. I hope that it continues to be written at the quality that it does, and I hope that it finds an audience. We have tried to construct a night now where we think it can bring a little bit more compatible flow through it, so my hopes are very high. I think it’s a terrific show.” Nonetheless, in order to increase the episode order that is currently at 15, ratings still need to improve.

Glamour journalist Jessica Radloff recently interviewed Mindy on the upcoming season in an interview that was released on their site, www.glamour.com, this past Wednesday. When asked if there would over 15 episodes for the upcoming season, season 3, Mindy responded saying: “I obviously would love to do a full season or even a couple more. I think we’ll know in October when the show airs. I feel confident that we’ll get more, just because we have more stories to tell. I hope the fans come out and [really support us].” Radloff also asked Mindy whether the season would begin from a time jump or right where the last season finale left off. Mindy responded that, “The cold open takes place the same night as the finale and then we jump forward.”

The future of Morgan, played by Ike Barinholtz, and Tamar. played by Xosha Roquemore, was even revealed, Mindy discussed their relationship saying, “I always think of them as Kelly and Ryan on The Office, like on-and-off again every episode, and you don’t know what they’re doing. People love them, I love them together, and I love their characters.”

Finally, Radloff asked Mindy about the season premiere which is entitled “We’re a Couple Now Bitches.” Mindy stated that there would finally be stability amongst Danny, Chris Messina, and Mindy this season. Mindy said: “I’m not interested in them not dating. He’s 40, she’s 34. They had to work so hard to get to the point that they’re at now, and I want to see two people together working hard to make it work than breaking up. That’s not what I’m interested in right now.”

Additionally, it was revealed during the Television Critics Association summer press tour 2014, Emmy winner Rhe Perlman, will play Danny’s mother, a woman named Annette Castellano. Mindy told TV Line, “The wonderful thing about the character is the trope of the mother-in-law type figure who doesn’t like the girl is so pervasive, it’s like ‘Ok, how do we do a new spin on this?’ As Danny has said, ‘I don’t know how to please that woman.’ So we haven’t ignored her own relationship with her two sons and her ex-husband. So we really explore a lot.” Mindy also revealed that Annette Castellano’s character will be her “nemesis” this season, so it’s not all smooth sailing for Mindy and Danny.

The Mindy Project season 3 will premiere on Tues., Sept. 16, on FOX.
