Christian Dior set off to south of France for their resort fashion show recently. The show took place between Cannes and Monaco in the terracotta “bubble” house owned by Pierre Cardin. It is a very different house than one would see normally and was designed by Antti Lovag, a Hungarian architect. It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, or a place you could escape and feel like you’re in a different world. Raf Simons has wanted to do a show at this location since he worked for Jil Sander, five years ago. For the collection shown at the show it reflects the building it is being held in. Something summery, but still a little out of this world, or it seems like it is from the future.
The cloths reflected the stranger than normal building. According to Vogue’s report on the show, the clothes had contradictory elements. “sporty things with elaborate things, pretty things with weird things, and trophy after wantable trophy as earrings, shoes, and bags.” There were fuller skirts on jackets, leather dresses that stood out from the rest of the clothes, and balloon sleeves. The fabric used were shreds of lace that didn’t make the entire ensemble, but were interesting details.
All the clothes seemed light and airy perfect for jetting off to some part of the world. Maybe the South of France? The fabrics and cuts are refreshing to see on the runway. Having the setting reflect what the clothes look like, like Dior did this year, might become more of an essential for fashion shows. It sure does add to the atmosphere.
