eBay’s ‘Summer of Choice’ Campaign Features Designs by Rachel Zoe

eBay is holding an election of its own – and who’s on the ballot? Miss Rachel Zoe and her latest patriotic backpack designs.

Widely known for its efficient consumer-to-consumer transactions, the e-commerce website is teaming with fashion designer and stylist, Rachel Zoe, as they ask eBay consumers to choose. Zoe will design two unique American-themed backpacks for the website. Through Twitter and eBay’s site, consumers will be able to vote for their preferred style.

Although both designs will still appear on eBay’s site come September 9th, the right to vote concept is a part of eBay’s ‘Summer of Choice’ campaign. This summer special benefits both the consumer and the producers of eBay’s featured products. As customers get to choose products based on majority preference, production companies can eliminate unnecessary material costs for undesired products.

And as Zoe steps onto eBay’s campaign stage, the designer tells WWD, “One of the best parts of my job is empowering people to make choices that reflect their personal style.” Proceeds from the backpacks are also benefitting Zoe’s chosen charity of Save the Children, to which Zoe remarks, “I am equally thrilled that we are able to give back to children in need — a cause that is very close to my heart.”

The collaboration between Zoe and eBay succeeds a long line of eBay election. The site started with a democracy of dueling deals, where they pitted a grill and blender against one another, allowing the people to decide the winner. Turns out, smoothies are a smash this summer. After the verdict, the winning blender sold out on eBay’s mobile app.

eBay’s senior vice president, Hal Lawton, says, “We know that our shoppers want choice.”

So, eBay and its executives have scheduled an auction filled August with Olympic-themed items put to vote starting August 14th, Labor Day products beginning August 29th and then finally, Rachel Zoe’s backpack vote this August 30th.

Just in time for school! Zoe’s backpacks will be available this September at retail prices of $45.
